Thanks for reading my wall of text! I've been googling and can't find anybody at all who's had this specific problem. I've also connected the controller with Bluetooth and gone through all of the same tests with no results. I still tried installing it and seem to have it working, but still no input in Dark Souls 3. I've seen people talk about DS4Windows and other such mapping software, but those articles were all from 4-5 years ago. I tried launching the game and then, before reaching the main menu, disconnected my mouse and keyboard so that all that was connected to my computer was the dualshock 4, HDMI to my monitor, ethernet to my modem, and power to the magical power thing on the wall.
I found something that suggested that the issue is the game recognizing too many controllers that are plugged into the PC, seeing certain mice, keyboards, and other peripherals as controllers and refusing to recognize the dualshock 4. I can't close menus once I open them either, I have to alt-tab out and close the game's window. Oddly enough, that is the only thing the escape key will do. When I launch the game the only inputs I have that work are my mouse's movement, left click, and if I go to controller configuration in the game menu and select an input on the controller to edit, the escape key will allow me to deselect the chosen input. I can still get past it with a mouse click though.
I'll get to the screen that says "press any button to continue" and nothing happens no matter what I press on the controller. I'm on Windows 10, have a dualshock 4 controller connected to my PC via microUSB, and have confirmed that it does work on Steam big screen view mode and other games within Steam. I just re-bought Dark Souls 3 on Steam so I can play with some of the mods (looking at you, Convergence).
